Getting started

What Matana is and how to launch

What is Matana?

Matana is a donation platform built for nonprofits and mission-driven organizations. You create branded campaign pages, accept gifts by card and donor-advised fund, and the money settles directly into your own account — Matana never sits in the middle. Why Matana →

Who is Matana for?

Registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits, schools, congregations, and other organizations that fundraise. Individuals running a personal cause can use it too — only registered nonprofits issue tax-deductible receipts.

How do I get started?

Create an account, connect your organization's Stripe account for payouts, build a campaign in the four-step editor, and publish. Most teams have a page live the same day. Get started →

Do I need a developer or design skills?

No. The campaign builder is point-and-click with a live preview, ready-made color and typography themes, and image uploads — no code required.

Payments & payouts

How donations reach you

Where do donations go?

Straight to you. Card gifts are processed through your organization's own Stripe account and settle directly there. Matana never holds your funds and takes no per-donation cut.

When do I get paid out?

On your own Stripe payout schedule, which you control in Stripe — typically every couple of business days once your account is verified.

What payment methods can donors use?

Credit and debit cards, plus donor-advised funds through OJC and The Donors' Fund. You choose which methods each campaign accepts.

Can donors give recurring gifts?

Yes — weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually. You pick which frequencies each page offers, and recurring revenue is tracked in your dashboard.

Can donors give in their own currency?

Yes. You can let donors give in USD, ILS, CAD, GBP, or EUR while you still settle in your organization's default currency.

Pricing & fees

What Matana costs

How much does Matana cost?

A campaign is one flat fee of $1,000never a percentage of what you raise, not even on matching funds. Run as many campaigns as you like; each is its own $1,000. An always-on donation page is $49/mo, billed separately. Every dollar donated reaches your account in full. See pricing →

Do you take a percentage of donations?

No — and that's the point. A campaign is a flat $1,000, whether you raise $10,000 or $1,000,000. We take 0% of your donations and 0% of your matching funds. Percentage-based platforms can take 3–8% of everything raised, which on a $100,000 campaign is thousands of dollars — with Matana it's a flat $1,000. (Your payment processor's standard card fees still apply — see below.)

What's included in the $1,000 campaign fee?

Everything. Matching-gift pools, donor-advised funds (OJC and The Donors' Fund), multi-currency donations, recurring gifts, donor fee-coverage, full analytics and data exports with no retention limit, and 5 team seats. There are no tiers and nothing is gated — every campaign gets the full platform.

Is the campaign fee refundable?

Yes, until you go live. The $1,000 is fully refundable any time before your campaign is published. Once the campaign runs, the fee stands.

What if my campaign is very small, very large, or unusual?

If a flat $1,000 isn't the right fit — a small drive, an ongoing effort, or something bespoke — talk to us about specialized pricing. Organizations that raise year-round often prefer the $49/mo donation page instead of a campaign.

Then why is there a fee on my donation?

That's the payment processor's fee, not Matana's. Card payments are handled by Stripe, which charges a standard per-transaction fee — 2.9% + $0.30 on US cards (a little higher for international or currency-converted gifts). It goes to Stripe and applies on any card platform; Matana adds nothing on top. Registered 501(c)(3)s can apply to Stripe for its discounted nonprofit rate (2.2% + $0.30).

What is Advanced?

Advanced is coming soon — an optional account-level subscription you'll be able to add on top of your campaigns or donation page. It's designed to give you unlimited team seats plus a suite of advanced tools we're building: an AI campaign & content assistant, advanced analytics & attribution, CRM & accounting integrations, and A/B testing. (Peer-to-peer fundraising isn't part of Advanced — it's included for everyone.) Want it early? Join early access →

What is “donor covers fees”, and will it cover the whole fee?

An optional checkbox on your page that lets donors add the card processing fee on top of their gift, so more of what they intend reaches your cause. It's the donor's choice on each gift. The amount shown is an estimate based on a standard rate, so the exact fee — and your net — can vary slightly. On international or currency-converted gifts, Stripe's conversion fee isn't included, so you may still net a little less.

Tax receipts

Receipts and compliance

Do donors get tax receipts?

Registered 501(c)(3) organizations issue tax-deductible receipts automatically, formatted to IRS Pub 1771. Donors receive theirs by email right after giving.

What do I need to issue tax receipts?

Your organization's legal name, EIN, and mailing address. You enter these once in settings and they flow onto every receipt.

What if we're not a 501(c)(3)?

Donors still get a clear payment receipt for their records — it just isn't a tax-deductible receipt.

Security & trust

How your money and data are protected

Does Matana hold my money?

No. Funds settle directly into your organization's own connected account. There's no Matana balance in the middle and nothing to withdraw from us.

Is payment information secure?

Card payments are handled by Stripe, a PCI-certified processor. Matana never sees or stores raw card numbers, and DAF provider credentials are stored encrypted.

Campaigns & customization

Building and running your pages

Can I customize my campaign page?

Yes — choose from ready-made color and typography themes (or set your own brand colors), add header images, donation tiers, and progress-bar styles, all with a live preview.

Can I run more than one campaign?

Yes. Run as many campaigns as you need, each with its own page, goal, and branding — and use subpages when one campaign needs several entry points.

Can I change a campaign after it's live?

You can adjust the end date any time before the first gift arrives. Changing the length doesn't change your fee — a campaign is a flat $1,000 no matter how long it runs. After the first donation the dates lock to keep the record accurate.
